Plasti-Dip Guide: Easy DIY Blackout for Silverado Badges

May 14, 2026 Engraving Nation Team 12 Min Read

The Gateway Mod

Plasti-Dip is often the first modification a new truck owner attempts. It's cheap, removable, and provides an instant 'blackout' look. But is it right for a premium build?

The Process

Mask off a rectangular area around the emblem, leaving about 2 inches of 'overspray' area. Apply 5-6 very thin coats, waiting 10 minutes between each. Once dry, peel away the excess, and the dip should naturally separate at the edges of the emblem.

The Longevity Issue

Plasti-Dip is a rubberized coating. Over time, road salt and high-pressure car washes will cause it to tear. For owners who want a permanent, luxury finish that doesn't feel like rubber, custom-etched metal from Engraving Nation is the natural next step.
